Raid is based on a true story, is about an honest income-tax officer and his most challenging raid. Amay Patnaik (Ajay Devgn) is an income-tax officer with cent per cent integrity. He doesn’t accept bribes and even refuses to accept gifts as, according to him, a gift by a member of the public to a government servant like him is akin to a bribe. Amay has just recently been posted in Lucknow and the year is 1981. He and wife Malini (Ileana D’cruz) have moved in into their modest house and have just about settled there.
One day, Amay receives a phone call from an unknown caller who informs him about black money in the local MP, Rameshwar Singh’s (Saurabh Shukla) house. Rameshwar Singh wields so much power that the people of Lucknow call him Tauji and almost worship him. Amay does his homework and, after being convinced about the tip-off that the informer has given him, raids the house of Tauji following authorisation by the D.I. Commissioner (Udayvir Singh). Amay, his team of assistants and a number of police officers reach Tauji’s mansion and, much to the shock of Tauji and his large extended family, begin the raid after completing the formalities and explaining the family members the rules to be followed by themselves (income-tax department officers) and by the family members. Tauji and his family members try their level best to browbeat Amay and drive him away by threatening him of dire consequences but Amay doesn’t budge.
After many hours of search, Amay and his team get nothing of the Rs. 420 crore of black money believed to be hidden in the house and other places. Just as it begins to appear that Amay’s mission was going to yield nothing and that Tauji would, therefore, seek revenge by ruining his career, Amay tastes some success. He then starts getting more and more lucky as he unearths more and more black money, gold bars, items of jewellery and other riches from the most unlikely places in the mansion.
The raid continues over a few days and Amay finally unearths the entire estimated amount of unaccounted wealth. Somehow, Tauji gets the feeling that it is a member of his own family who has spilled the beans and thereby aided Amay. Tauji being Tauji, he uses all the contacts at his command to stop the raid. He even offers to pay Amay huge amounts by way of bribe. When nothing works, Tauji attacks Amay’s wife, Malini. As a last resort, Tauji musters the support of the people of Lucknow, who are his blind supporters. These supporters come to Tauji’s mansion in large numbers, armed with weapons, to prevent Amay and his team from taking the seized amount of wealth to the government treasury. It is now the question of Amay’s duty versus the lives of Amay and his team mates.
What happens thereafter? Does Amay succeed in his mission? Does he survive the raid? Are his team members and he himself able to escape from the mansion? Is the seized amount deposited in the government treasury? Who was the informer? Was there a member of Tauji’s family, who had leaked information to Amay while the raid was underway?

Synopsis[edit]
The film focuses on an IRS officer Amay Patnaik (Ajay Devgn), who has just been transferred[9] to Lucknow as Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, where he lives happily with his wife Malini (Ileana D'Cruz). One day, he receives an anonymous tip about black money hoarded by (Member of Parliament) Rameshwar Singh (Saurabh Shukla), the don of Sitagarh, who had evaded income tax for a long time. So, Amay and his team, after much planning, head to Sitagarh. There he and his team faces opposition from a very hostile Rameshwar's family but he holds up to his ideals and integrity. He searches every nook and cranny of the house with his team to find the black money without any success. After a few hours of searching, when all hope seems lost, he receives an anonymous letter, along with a map, revealing the location of the money in the house. Amay and his team break down the walls, ceilings, staircases and old storerooms (with the help of the map) to find assets worth crores (tens of millions)[10]. MP Rameshwar, not willing to accept defeat, goads Amay into letting him leave the house.
He meets the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, who refuses any help as the Income Tax department is under the control of the Central Government and the raid is legal. The Central Finance Minister is persuaded to call Amay, but is promptly rebuffed. A relentless Rameshwar meets several MPs, politicians, senior officers and even tries to meet the then Prime Minister(PM), Indira Gandhi herself, but to no avail. He, then rallies his political support and threatens to topple the state cabinet unless the Prime Minister agrees to meet him. As the raid continues for a 3rd consecutive night, the PM and Rameshwar meet. The PM calls Amay and asks him to look for other legal options; Amay agrees to comply, as long as she furnishes a signed order through fax ordering Amay and his team to stop the raid, effectively negating the request. The PM realizes that a written order pressurizing the IRS team to stop the raid may reach the media and the Government may be brought into disrepute. She refuses to help and sends Rameshwar away. Frustrated, Rameshwar upon exhausting his political options, tries the tack of attacking Amay's wife Malini, who narrowly escapes. On hearing this, Amay becomes furious but decides to control his anger.
Finally, on the 4th day, at noon, Rameshwar sends his henchmen to kill Amay and his team. A long battle ensues and a nearly defeated Amay is saved in the nick of time by a special police force sent in by the PM. Rameshwar is arrested and before being led away in handcuffs he asks Amay about the identity of his informant. Amay refuses to divulge that information. It is later revealed, that Rameshwar's youngest daughter-in-law was the informer. It seems she and her lover wanted revenge on Rameshwar for forcing her to marry his impotent son. Rameshwar is seen wondering about the informer's identity in prison while Amay gets transferred to another city, with hopes of a brighter future.

They recovered undeclared assets worth ₹16 million (US$230,000) in cash and gold. The raid reportedly took 18 hours and had 45 people took to counting of notes.[18][19][20]

- Ajay Devgn appears so uninspired..In its textures, Raid aims for a gritty realism but the characters are painted in broad strokes. Eventually the punch is predictable but after a few stumbles, it does land. The film's real hero is the script writer. Ritesh Shah has made sure the dialogue breezes over the pouring over reams of paper while revolving around dusty offices, cowsheds and a mucky well.Undeclared income is all around, and all it needs is a bit of digging, Raid says. That turns out to be its most enduring idea. What helps is that Devgn is restrained in his performance, and Shah and Gupta resist the temptation to give in to too much jingoism. Shukla, as the arrogant politician whose bravado crumbles, is inspired as usual. In short, the dramatic scenes between Ajay Devgn and Saurabh Shukla alone are worth the price of the ticket. Watch the film if you like manly heroes quitely going about their jobs and villains who can be gentlemen at times. With a tighter editing, slightly less focus on the wannabe love story and a lesser dose of melodrama, Raid could have been a gripping thriller.Raid is a film that caters to public sentiment against black money and corruption. All in all, this one's right on the money.Romantic strain was such a misfit in a thriller that would have benefited from tighter editing and sticking to its route of being an edgy crime drama.
